ZUT100

During the gruelling 100-mile Garmisch Ultra-Trail race, I spent time at one of the aid stations. Although my main purpose was to film Eugen Fink for a YouTube video, I also captured moments at the aid station to offer a glimpse into the athletes’ experience off the trail.

The focus was on the runners’ energy levels and recovery in the middle of the night – a side of endurance racing that is rarely seen. I documented simple yet revealing moments, such as athletes refuelling with bread, cheese and other non-traditional 'sports' food. These images were kept for private use only, but they capture the human side of ultrarunning, far from the spotlight of the finish line.
